Sharing Our News - Ten Weeks

17 May 2013

Your gestational age is 10 weeks now, little one. I am still very sick almost all the time. A lot of people call it “morning sickness” but for me it’s literally all day every day. I usually feel best in the mornings and go downhill pretty quickly. By six o’clock in the evening I am just anxious for bedtime to arrive so I can sleep and get some relief. (Bedtime for me has been between 8:30 and 9:30 these days.) I have been dealing with nausea and fatigue all day every day. I have such terrible food aversions - food just doesn’t sound good or taste good! When it’s time to eat, I have to decide what sounds the least disgusting. I have dizzy spells and have been running a higher temperature than normal - although it’s not high enough to qualify as a fever. But all of these symptoms mean that you are growing and doing great! I’m thankful for the (constant) reminder that you are living inside me and doing well. However, I’m really looking forward to feeling better, hopefully in two or three weeks.

We finally got to tell our families about you! It was a very exciting weekend. We told Grams & Pops and Uncle Caleb and his family last Saturday. They all came over for lunch to celebrate Mother’s Day. Uncle Caleb and I had bought a Grandmother’s necklace for Grams that has a birthstone for each of her grandkids. Of course, one of the birthstones was for you! Then Grams read a poem I had written telling her that you were going to be here in December. She was so surprised and excited! So was the rest of the family.

We told Nana & Grandpa on Sunday. Of course, that was extra exciting because they learned that Uncle Jacob and Aunt Jessica were expecting at the same time. We made a photo book of pregnancy announcement photos and when Nana opened it and saw the front photo (a picture of Penny and Jase wearing their “big sibling” T-shirts) she knew right away what it meant and got so emotional. It was a perfect moment! Grandpa just smiled great big. It was so much fun to surprise them that way!

There are a lot of people who are excited to find out about you. There have been lots of people praying for Daddy and me - praying that God would give us a new baby. So many people are rejoicing with us! I couldn’t be happier.

I have already had a strange “pregnancy dream.” I dreamed that I was a wet nurse - that I nursed other people’s babies for them. In this dream I nursed Austin Hefner (who is several weeks old) and he looked up at me when he was finished eating and said, “I want chocolate milk!” I was so surprised that he could talk and told his mommy that he was a genius. When I woke up, I thought how strange that dream was. But I know I dreamt it because I can’t wait to hold you and nurse you. Austin only showed up in my dream because I had held him in the nursery that morning at church.

I’m definitely already showing. My tummy is sticking out. I haven’t worn my regular jeans buttoned up in a few weeks already. It was hard to hide my belly for those few weeks, but now that everyone knows about you, I don’t have to try to hide it anymore! I will have Daddy take a photo of me sometime soon so I can show you what I look like right now. The books say you are only the size of a prune, but my uterus (your home) is larger than a grapefruit. And I showed rather quickly when I was pregnant with your sister, so it’s logical that I would be showing so early again. I like it. I like seeing the evidence that you are in there!

I get to see you next week at my next doctor’s appointment and I can’t wait to see how you’ve grown! I am praying for you every day and I am so thankful for you!

Here are some more photos we used to announce our pregnancy.
